Baptism is the beginning of the journey of faith, when we thank God for his gift of life and publicly acknowledge his love. In the Anglican Church, it is common to baptise young children; this is sometimes known as christening.
Baptism is primarily about being welcomed into membership of the Christian church. Parents often want their children to be baptised so that, as they grow up, they can learn about God and the Church. It is about becoming a member of the Church and we hope that everyone who is baptised, young or older, will become part of the church that serves their community.
During the baptism service, the visible signs of water, being marked with the cross and the lit candle are used to show God’s love.
If you live within the parish of West Buckrose, or you are a member of our congregation, you are very welcome to have your child baptised at one of our churches, or to be baptised yourself.
The first step is to contact Reverend Cate either using the contact page on this site, or by telephoning her on (01653 619928). She will arrange a meeting with you to explain the service and what you need to do next.
